What's in My Bag: First Day of School Edition
With August ending and September beginning it seems none of us can avoid the subject of school for much longer. School means so many things for different people. For my Mom, it means she will get a fresh set of little Kindergarteners entering her classroom doors Monday morning. As a camp counselor, it's a bit sad for me because all my kids will be leaving me this week and heading back into school. For most of my co-workers, it means senior year of high school is approaching fast along with college applications.
The subject of school holds a lot of emotions and since being in college it has become more of a journey than a mundane activity. Next Thursday, I will officially be moving back down to sunny Southern California to begin my 3rd year of college. To be honest, I couldn't be more excited about returning to campus and seeing my friends and sorority sisters again. Since entering college, the "First Day of School" has become a whole different ball game compared to when I was in high school. From what to bring on that first day of class to what to wear! All the rules have changed, but since it is my third year, I feel like a I know what to expect when it comes to what to bring on that first day of classes and I would like to share it with you readers.
Below, I have taken a photo of some of my must-have first day of school supplies and have numbered them for you. Each description of the item can be found through their number! :)
1. Backpack or Purse: I feel like this is the most basic thing to bring on the first day of anything! I tend to be the type of person that flip flops from backpack to purse. I usually carry my purse when I know I don't have to carry a ton of stuff with me.
TIP: When picking a backpack or purse for school, make sure the handles can carry the weight of whatever you are carrying. The worst thing that could happen to you is if the handle or strap were to break in the middle of the day. (Believe me, it has happened.)
2. Notebook and Pen: Some Professors really hate electronics in the classroom so if that were to ever happen it is important that you have a back-up plan. I usually only bring one notebook for all my classes on the first day and write down all the stuff I need to purchase for that class on one page.
TIP: If you really feel like carrying one notebook is just not enough bring two! One morning classes and one for afternoon! In the past, I have purchased before class a notebook for each class and end up not using at least two of them just because I typed on my computer.
3. Ipad/Computer: Now this is one of those items that I usually take with me to all classes. In the past, I usually just took my computer but this year I am taking my IPad with a wireless keyboard. This isn't something you will nessisarly be using for notes, but it is defintatly something you should have if you haven't printed out the syllabus. (PS: Don't forget chargers!)
TIP: If you recieve an email from a professor about a sllyabus, the best thing to do is to print it immediately! Syllabus's are basically the bible for each class and give you important information from absences to curving grades. ALWAYS HAVE A SYLLABUS!!
4. Planner: as I have explained in my Erin Condren post, this planner is a life saver! Even now, when i'm not in school I am using it daily! Planners are just important organizational tools to have and you should really use them! Especially that first day of school when the teacher is throwing out some dates at you.
5. Arrive 10 minutes Early!: A lot of things can happen that first day of school including not knowing where your classes are. To make your life a little easier just give youself that extra time to make sure you get to class on time and seated in the place where you want to sit. I myself usually really over-esitmate everything on the first day of school but I would rather be waiting outside the classroom waiting for the last class to exit than running in late in the middle of the professors opening talk.
TIP: Just before school starts take a look at the building and room numbers. If you have no idea where anything is ask someone! Most people are happy to help you!
TIP: Get your schedule on your phone and make it your lock screen photo. That way if you forget where something is you can just turn your phone on and your schedule is right there ready for you!
BONUS: What NOT to bring
Something that I have learned of the years is it is best NOT to buy your school books before the first day of school. On multiple occasions, Professors will say that the books that are needed for the class ARE NOT the same as the ones given online during the registration process. Save your money and wait! Most Professors don't expect you to have your books until the end of the month or they will give you a date for when you need them!
Well lovely Reader's there you go! Hopefully this post will help you figure out what to bring the first day of school! Whether this is your first day of college or your last first day of college hopefully one of my tips will help you plan for that first day of classes.

Do you know who Troye Sivan is? If not, here's why you should:
Some people believe that YouTube is just a niche on the internet where you can find DIY to cat videos. What most people don't know is that Youtube is becoming just as big as any other media online and here is a perfect example of that.
This guy above is named Troye Sivan. And he is quickly becoming one of the most popular musicians on YouTube. The attractive 19 year old Aussie is on his way to become a pop star sensation.
Don't believe me? Within hours of his EP announcement Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter all went viral with the #tryxe (the title of his EP). With the help of his 2.5 million subscribers on Youtube and his 1.7 million followers on Twitter Troye quickly became #1 on iTunes in multiple countries with his single "Happy Little Pill".
Now, as a disclaimer, I am someone who spends hours and hours on YouTube daily, however when I heard Troye was coming out with an album I quickly brushed it off as something common in the Youtube community. I even passed up the opportunity to buy an exclusive "Tryxe" sweatshirt at this years VidCon (they sold out within an hour btw.)
However, when "Happy Little Pill" came out my curiosity got the best of me and I had to take a listen. The result? It was amazing, addictive, fun, creative and so much more. The combination of tech sounds and amazing vocals make this song not one to forget. A few weeks later I picked up the entire EP on Rhapsody and fell in love with every song.
Have I mentioned I haven't liked one artist entire album since Adele's 21?!
Seriously though, you won't regret taking a listen at this fabulous up and coming singer. Because before you know it, he will be a name you will see everywhere.
Now, I hope I get you just as addicted to Troye as I am now!
Not convinced yet? Here is a the single Happy Little Pill
Fell in love yet? If so here is Troye's dedication to "Fault in Our Stars"

The Erin Condren Life Planner: Why this planner is worth everything.
If you are a friend of mine, or follow me on twitter you know that for the past couple of weeks I have been talking about something called a "Life Planner". "Life Planner" is a term coined by Erin Condren and her personalized organization business ErinCondren.com. Now I know some of you are just rolling your eyes at the sound of something just as simple as a paper planner but let me tell you that it is one for the most amazing things I have ever seen!
These planners are completely PERSONALIZED from color to design all the way to the stickers that go inside. Here helpful online youtube videos just begin to show you how you can use this planner in multiple ways.
These planners are completely PERSONALIZED from color to design all the way to the stickers that go inside. Here helpful online youtube videos just begin to show you how you can use this planner in multiple ways.
Overwhelmed yet? I know I was. And if you continue looking at different youtube videos, you can see multiple reviews on the Life Planners (Including the packaging!).
So it took over 6 hours for me to pick out everything (cover, font color, sticker options, wraps, etc.) By the time I hit "confirm purchase" I was exhausted and so happy for the process to be over with at least until next year.
A couple of weeks passed until my planner arrived at my front door! To say I was excited is a bit of an understatement
And yes, the packaging is just as beautiful as you think (outside and inside). While I am just getting started in the 18th month journey this planner and I will have, so far we are on the road to a beautiful and organized partnership.
If you are interested in getting this planner here is a little gift from me to you! $10 off!!

Why I am glad the "Leak" happened and why I don't think it was an accident (Vague Spoilers)
I was on the road going on vacation when I heard the news. One of my favorite fan sites posted that Doctor Who was suffering from another leak. This time however it wasn't another script but the first episode of Capaldi's Doctor.
So as the "phone call" begins and as I watch it, the show suddenly feels like how it use to. My show really hasn't changed at all and it all has to do with that phone call. Seeing him tell Clara its okay and "help him" just made me feel better. I don't even know how to explain it but it made my mourning of my beloved Doctor stop.
My first couple of thoughts were shock and then the internal debate about whether or not I should watch it. For those of you that know me I am the Queen of Spoilers and have been referenced on more than one occasion as the girl from the Netflix commercials. So my obvious reaction was of course to watch it, no matter what the BBC told me I wanted to see it.
Well as my friend sent me the link and as I hit play and watched the first 30 seconds for the first time in my life I didnt want to watch Doctor Who. It didnt feel right and as much as I wanted to tell myself to suck it up I couldn't.
Backstory:
I watched Doctor Who after wisdom teeth surgery in 2012. I became obsessed and binge watched all six seasons in a short week and a half. How I watched it and the order I watched it in can be saved for another blog post but the short story is I fell madly in love with Matt Smith. He was the perfect Doctor for me and not only that but I had a sorta ginger connection to Amelia (Amy) Pond.
He is my Doctor.
So when Christmas hit last year it was a dark time. I was a puddle of mess and not only that I was in mourning. My favorite show, a show that made me want to become a TV major is changing and possibly into something I wouldn't like. However, like a true Doctor Who fan I decided to keep an eye on news and information. I also made a promise to myself to watch the new Doctor and give him at least a chance.
| Christmas Night (Sweatshirt says: Matt Smith is my Doctor) |
Fast forward to now. As I paused the episode only a few moments into the new episode when I suddenly remember a piece of footage I saw when they were filming. Without spoiling the information (however some of you could guess what it was) I began to skip to that moment.
(If you REALLY don't want to be spoiled skip to where it says CONTINUE)
So as the "phone call" begins and as I watch it, the show suddenly feels like how it use to. My show really hasn't changed at all and it all has to do with that phone call. Seeing him tell Clara its okay and "help him" just made me feel better. I don't even know how to explain it but it made my mourning of my beloved Doctor stop.
I know why Moffatt put that in but seeing that first before really knowing what is in the episode gave me the extra push I needed. It will be okay. I will be okay without my Doctor. After all he is just the same man only with grey hair and a few years older.
It's like what all those T-Shirts say: "You Never Forget Your First Doctor". I will always have a special place for 11 but its time for me to support 12.
(CONTINUE)
I turned the episode off after watching that scene (so I have NOT seen the whole episode and don't plan to until August) and thats when it hit me.
Doctor Who leaks happen so frequently and so carelessly I truly think its done for a reason. The Finale leak a year a go was done to give the show some buzz RIGHT before the 50th and the script leaks were to give us the confidence the season with the new Doctor would be amazing.

However it backfired.
From what I saw on Tumblr and Twitter, more people were disappointed than excited. People really were unhappy with what was happening in the upcoming season so what happened next? A leak of the first episode...
I know some of you might just think that this theory is crazy however think back to Asylum of the Daleks. I don't think ANYONE saw Clara coming in that episode. How is it that one little thing like that was kept yet the 12th Doctor's episode was LEAKED?
BBC is smarter than that in my opinion...

Fans, Kleenex's and Okay.
On May 11th, I was lucky enough to attend an event for the upcoming movie "The Fault in Our Stars".
I am a huge Fault in Our Stars fan and a huge fan of John Green (who would be in attendance at the screening). But I also wanted to go because I am hoping to someday work PR at an entertainment organization. So while most of this was just because I am a fangirl and wanted to just enjoy this, I also wanted to see how everything was from a behind-the-scenes experience. The ticket was given to be as a birthday present (thanks Mom and Dad!)
The whole thing was sponsored by Shailene Woodley and her Mom's charity All it Takes. All it Takes is an organization which gives children an opportunity to go to a camp and learn all kinds of leadership activities and about themselves. I honestly didn't know much about the organization until they showed the clip before the movie and it was really inspiring. I am a sucker for kids and knowing that the money we all paid to get these tickets was going towards children and helping them just made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Did I also mention that all of this was on the Fox Lot? That alone was really cool because as we drove into the screening we saw sets from famous television shows and sets, parking spots for different famous people but…unfortunately we didn't really get a chance to walk around because once we got there we wanted to get our seats because the movie was going to start in a half an hour. Oops.
Before entering the theater they immediately handed everyone Kleenex's. Adorable right?
Then when we got our seats there was two things I noticed: fangirls and executives. The theater was mainly filled with pre-teens and teens all in TIFIOS theme shirts. Silently I groaned in my seat at seeing them because I knew this meant screaming at Ansel and Natt when they came on screen (I was right).
Wyck Godfrey, who produced this movie, along with his family sat right in front of me (I only recognized him from my Twilight obsessed days) along with "JustJared" who is a blogger and reviewer. There was a ton of other important people there who I didn't recognized but I knew they were important because they all knew each other and hugged and talked before and after the movie.
The brief presentation of All it Takes was first and then the movie began… Now, I don't want to go into full details but I will say this:
After the credits, the cast and crew walked on stage. They all introduced themselves except for the last guy. (I don't know why they didn't say his name!). As a side note: Shailene's hair was super cute because it just flopped everywhere and throughout the Q and A she would change the direction it was going which was just adorable. I know, girly comment but I just loved it! She rocks that hair cut!
The question being asked mainly focused on John Green and his writing, videos and opinions. Also Josh Boone the Director made note that John's scene that was cut from the movie is in the deleted scenes on the DVD so Nerd Fighters don't worry!
I could truly go on and on about this whole experience but as it is this post is getting long so I will stop now and just say that this is something I will never forget and hopefully I will be able to attend more of these and share them with you all.
Love,
Sarah.
P.S: After seeing the movie, I was so moved by this song it was all I could listen to for days….If you haven't heard it yet please give it a listen!

As a book reader and someone who has read A LOT of book to movie adaptions the Fault in our Stars is the best one I have seen. Multiple lines from the movie are pulled straight out of the book and Ansel and Shaline couldn't have been more perfect. I laughed and sobbed and did everything in between. Also the music they added to the movie just fit. Nothing ever felt out of place everything just was perfection. I couldn't have asked for anything more <3

When the Q and A ended, people who paid more money, were given the opportunity to take photos with the cast. We left though and were given our complementary TIFIOS book.

A Petite Pintrest Party
Pintrest is something that probably all of us have heard or know about but what is interesting about it is we all use Pintrest differently. I first heard about Pintrest from my mother who was using it for getting ideas for her classroom (she is a teacher). I was really resistant to the idea because at the time I only knew a handful of people who had it, but after sitting down and creating an account I understood.
PINTREST IS OBSESSIVE
Pintrest is perfect for anyone who likes to plan ahead, put things into little categories and even nerds. Over the years I have used Pintrest for all of the above but I wanted to show you just a few of my favorite boards I have created. The boards I'm going to focus on just show how versatile a website like this one is. Each one of these boards shows the fantasy side, geeky side and the future
One of my favorite and probably biggest pin board is my wedding board. Once "Bride day Friday" hits TLC I am on this board like no bodies business pinning away!! I literally have no self control when it comes to this page and as I get older this page gets bigger!! Below are just a few of the pins I have pinned on this page.
The next board is completely different and their is a little story that goes with it. Two years ago, before I truly understood what Tumblr was I used Pintrest as my Tumblr and had a "Geek Page". Last year I looked at my Geek Page and noticed that I have over 1,000 pins!!! THATS INSANE! So after creating a Tumblr I *gasp* deleted the page and created separate Boards for each Fandom. The one below is my biggest fandom board labeled "Geronimo". This is my Doctor Who Board and just shows how diverse Pintrest is!! This is why I love this site so much! One board is Weddings another is Doctor Who!!
Finally the last board I want to show you is a board that I just created to help me get ideas for the future. Within the next year, I will be moving out of Dorm living and moving into my own apartment. I have become over-excited about this to be honest but its also really helpful because it's helping me really pick out what I like and what I need to get for my future apartment.
What I have showed you are just a few of the many uses of Pintrest. Now I know this isn't ground-breaking news so tell me, what do you use Pintrest for? What is your favorite board? Let me know in the comments below!
Also, if there is anything you are geek'n over let me know below! You never know maybe it will be used for next weeks topic!
Much Love,
Sarah
